Today, we will have a comprehensive gear check to ensure you are well-equipped for the climb. Our team will assist you in verifying that all your equipment has arrived and is in good condition. Any necessary rentals or purchases can be made at this time. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring the town or relaxing at your hotel.
-
After breakfast, we will drive to Machame Gate. Complete the registration process and begin your trek through the dense rainforest. This initial hike will take you to Machame Camp (2,835m/9,301ft), where you will spend your first night on the mountain.

After an early breakfast, leave the glades of the rainforest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the valley along a steep rocky ridge. Enjoy the breathtaking views as you move towards the Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira Camp (3,750m/12,303ft) in the late afternoon.
Distance: 5 km / 3 miles
Trekking Time: 4-6 hours

Today’s route turns east into a semi-desert and rocky landscape surrounding the Lava Tower. After lunch near the Lava Tower (4,630m/15,190ft), descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m/12,992ft). Although you end the day at almost the same elevation as you started, this day is crucial for acclimatization.

Leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. Continue up to Barafu Camp (4,640m/15,223ft). You have now completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day.

Between Stella Point and the summit, (in good weather) you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. From Stella Point, it’s a short hike to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, begin your descent to Mweka Camp (3,110m/10,204ft).
